In order to comply with the Driver Regulations every driver carrying regulated dangerous substances will need to complete a course comprising a number of modules from the list below. The precise extent of the course and appropriate examinations will be determined by the content of the driver's work. The ADR course can be completed within three to five days depending on which modules are required to be taken by individuals.
There are four elements to the ADR syllabus which are listed below with a separate examination for each module and class, which are held on the final day of each course.
The initial ADR Vocational Certificate is valid for five years. A three day refresher course can be taken to extend the certificate for a further five years. If you fail to sit a refresher course prior to your original vocational certificate running out you will not be allowed to drive a vehicle transporting dangerous goods until you retake the ADR Vocational Course.
All examinations are multiple choice type questions; i.e. tick the relevant answer, where the candidate is given four alternatives. There should be no problems with the examinations because the drivers will be properly trained and prepared in advance. Candidates who fail a particular module are eligible to re-sit the exam within 16 weeks without having to take further training.
It should be noted that an ADR Vocational Certificate will not be issued if the candidate does not pass both Core and either the Tanker or Packaged Goods modules plus one specialist class.
